In April the UK government brought into force new immigration rules intended to reduce the level of net migration into the country.
The key points of the changes include: the rising of the salary threshold for skilled workers from £26,200pa to £38,700pa (specific exemptions apply) – the minimum salaries for some roles are greater; the Shortage Occupation List (SOL) is being replaced by the ‘Immigration Salary List’, with a significant reduction of eligible job roles; and the list of eligible roles for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route is being expanded.
Other changes include: the increasing of the minimum income requirement for partners of British/settled individuals from £18,600 to £29,000; a new scheme for those undertaking research and training; and the announcement of a major review of the Immigration Salary List later in 2024.
These changes are unlikely to affect many moving companies themselves, however it will affect the eligibility of some potential customers to come to the UK. Overseas agents should take note.
