Change to the issuing of ECMT Permits

The Department of Transport in the UK has advised that in 2026 the process of issuing ECMT Permits will be going digital.  The ECMT permits travel to or through European Conference of Ministers of Transport member countries.  From 2026, operators will no longer require a paper permit or logbook. Instead, they will receive a QR code and will be able to log all journey details online.

To help operators prepare for this, the International Transport Forum (ITF) will be opening up the website later this year to ensure hauliers can familiarise themselves with the system. Operators will still receive a paper permit and logbook, but will also be able to log onto the ITF website with a unique username and password. These details will be provided by the International Road Haulage Permit Office (IRHPO) when the permit is issued.

The process of applying for ECMT Permits will remain the same throughout.
